2009 Decoy Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Varietal Content: 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot; Cooperage: 100% French Oak
Reflecting the character of each growing season, the Decoy Napa Valley Cabernet is made to be opened and enjoyed upon release. It is rich and appealing with fragrant, lifted aromas of mulberry, raspberry and currant with hints of rhubarb and mocha. The soft-toned fruit flavors dominate the plush and inviting palate with engaging spice complexity. This supple and approachable wine has a lingering finish framed by structured tannins.
From our first Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc blocks to our final red-varietal Estate picks, our 2009 harvest spanned more than two months. Though the 2009 growing season presented certain challenges—from early shatter to late-season rain—a thoughtful response in the vineyards yielded smaller-than-normal crops of high-quality fruit. This response included aggressive leafing, an early thinning protocol and a heavy field sort to select only the most desirable grapes.
